Wacky Black Bass fishing, a fishing technique that many of you have heard of, but not all of you have dared to use.
A priori, it seems simple and perhaps not very effective, since the presentation does not seem very careful. The hook can be seen from the league and gives the impression that they will nibble on a point and we will miss many bites by not swallowing the hook.
Well, one thing is for sure, it is a simple fishing technique. But let's start at the beginning for those who do not know this fishing setup yet.
The fishing Wacky is a simple assembly generally used for fishing worms vinyl (Grubs) or Elongated soft lures like the Bulging Eyes (lure in the photo), which you can see in action in our Wacky Fishing YouTube video. This assembly can be done in two ways, the simplest will be to go through the vinyl with the hook through the central part of it or a little closer to the head depending on the action that we want to print the lure. This way of nailing the lure, although it is very simple, has the problem that our soft lure will be visibly damaged in each bite and has a great risk of loss in the event of a slight jam or energetic bites.
To solve the problem of deterioration of the lure we can use some small gummies, there are gums specially designed for this purpose, but we can use anyone as long as the hook remains attached to it. There are also several types of specific tools on the market to fix these rubbers more easily and make the task easier for us. In this way, the lure does not suffer tears as it is not directly punctured on the vinyl.
As for the doubts of the presentation, there is no problem. Even the most veteran Basses will ignore the presence of the hook, are instinctively drawn to the movement of the lure, and will swallow it whole unceremoniously. With this we do not mean that we have secured the catches, it may be that we see a large Bass on the surface, we throw our lure to the Wacky and it gets scared, or it ignores it.
If it gets scared, we have it more difficult, that Bass will be out of its coverage or hunting spot and it is also on alert, it will be complicated but not impossible for us to deceive it. If you just go from vinyl, it will be that that day you do not feel like that lure, we can try to puncture another type of vinyl on the hook or go radically to put a Swimbait or a popper, a walker, perhaps a Spinnerbait will take you out of your boxes and decide to bite. There is no fixed rule, but for that very reason, Bass fishing attracts so many fishermen, because there is no day when you do not learn something and many will be the days in which everything previously learned is dismantled at a stroke.
Now comes the most important thing, how to fish the Wacky? As we have already told you at the beginning, it is very simple. We just have to find the right time to use this fishing technique and the right place.
This is usually when the Black Bass is in shallow areas and requires leisurely fishing, it will also be important that the place has visible covers, branches coming out of the water or that there is only 1 meter deep to them. It is the moment to launch, we will put our vinyl on the same cover, without hooking in the branches of course. And we will wait a few seconds with the line taut while it goes very slowly. This moment is critical since many bites occur when the lure falls into the water, then we will touch the wrist with the idea of transmitting mobility and vibrations to our lure, we have to imagine that we want to imitate a writhing worm or shingles moving and give it all the life possible. The idea is to keep the lure within the coverage as much as possible so we will not mind that the pauses are several seconds, we will get the vinyl to go deeper and we will give time to attack those undecided Basses.
