Until when are we going to have to continue reading this news? A driver arrested when he was carrying almost 2000 kg of Tents to Romania.
The news, which today has not left any fisherman indifferent, narrates that the driver of Romanian origin was arrested when inspecting the van stopped on the A2 at the height of El Fransno (Zaragoza) in which his surplus was visibly suspected of weight.
When the Civil Guard patrol required the opening of the vehicle, they observed a large number of tents. The agents called colleagues from Seprona who, upon verifying that the driver did not have the necessary documentation for transportation or the traceability of the product, proceeded to arrest him for an alleged crime against public health.
The 1880 kilos of carp were allegedly extracted from an Extremadura reservoir and intended to be transported to Romania for subsequent sale and consumption, violating all Spanish and European regulations and laws on transport, capture, and possession of food for public consumption. For this type of crime, according to article 361 of the penal code, "a prison sentence of one to four years, a fine of six to twelve months and special disqualification for profession, trade, industry or commerce for a period of three to six years" is established.
the penalty that in my humble opinion seems totally inappropriate considering the great damage inflicted on the environment as well as the aggravating danger against public health, but what is really frustrating is what has been said. CRIME AGAINST PUBLIC HEALTH, there is no charge or at least in the sources consulted about the damage that has been done to the ecosystem of Extremadura, waters in which since this week there are almost 2000kg less of carp.
Damage to the predators that would feed on their spawn, in the next spawning period. Harm for Carp fans and therefore for all local and national trade that relies on these fans, but it seems that nobody is going to do anything about it. Except for the fishermen who are willing to mobilize and who will continue to make all the noise we can, hoping that it is enough.
On our fishing trips, we have found on more than one occasion that our lures have caught in the damn nets that unscrupulous illegals put with impunity in our reservoirs and harm our beloved species. I am not going to get into the issue that if these species have not been around since the beginning of time in our country, if they are invasive, as some call them who unfortunately write laws. What is clear that they are living beings, inhabit our waters, and give us fun and wealth. I believe that they deserve all possible respect and a law that protects them, not that sentences them to death.
As a curiosity, I will tell you that despite the fact that in the photo you can see fish already succumbed, many were the ones that we were able to save that day, Carps, Escardinos, Percas Fluviátilis, Pike perch, and some anecdotal Perca Sol. What we did not find in those horrible nets that We cut into a thousand pieces it was no Black Bass, which served us with joy when we saw that this clever Spanish fish, as much as it hurts to hear it from some, is so clever that it does not fall into their nets.
This network, like others we have come across, measured about 500 meters, something totally chilling and the saddest thing is that there was no person close to whom to report.
So, fishermen friends, let us denounce what we can if killing our fish is no longer punishable, let us denounce them for fishing them with nets, for trying to trade with them, or whatever comes to mind. But we have to fight against people who want to profit from our fish.
