camping spots near Monterrey

Sure, many times you have wanted to go camping for a weekend, but you don't know where to go, I understand you perfectly since I went through that countless times. The truth is that Monterrey is a paradise and the best of all is that we do not have to go that far to give ourselves that weekend getaway that we want so much, it is only a matter of giving ourselves the time to plan the adventure and launch ourselves into it.

Lately, I have been asked a lot to get an article with options for camping spots near Monterrey, so in this, I am going to provide you with 5 different sites that are near the city.

Each of them is different and can be reached in different ways, one of them has rivers and waterfalls, for some, it is necessary a car that is 4 × 4 and for others, it is possible to arrive in a normal city car, I also put places of altitude that lend yourself to a good hiking workout and prepare you for volcano season.

You can choose the camping area you want depending on what you want to do with your family or friends some weekend, or even during the week if your possibilities allow it! Here's the list:

El Chipitín waterfall

If what you are looking for is an adventure with water, I recommend you go camping near the area of this beautiful waterfall, one of the largest and most beautiful that is located within the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park, in the municipality of Santiago.

This waterfall measures about 90 meters and below it lies a turquoise blue lagoon. You can get here on foot or even by donkey since, in the ejido that is closest, in the area known as Potrero Redondo, they can provide you with the service if you wish.

If you decide to walk down it will take you about 40 minutes, consider that then you have to go back up. This place used to be less visited before, but nowadays it has become very popular and on Sundays, many people tend to go to spend the day, so personally and if possible, I would recommend you go from Friday to Saturday.

There are different areas where you can camp, you just have to know that it is important that you have to get to these points in 4 × 4 cars. You can ask about these camping areas right there, in the Potrero Redondo ejido, which are the recommended areas for camping and so you can get there very easily.

If you want to camp next to the waterfall, it is also possible, you just have to consider that if the water level is high, you will not have space to put your tent and it is very likely that all your equipment will get wet, so what I would advise you is to sleep close to the area and the next day goes down early to the waterfall.

Cerro el Potosí

If you want an experience in height, and perhaps more so now that the volcano season is approaching and you are training, going to sleep at the top of Cerro del Potosí is most likely your best option.

It is the highest hill in the Sierra Madre Oriental, it is located at 3,700 meters above sea level in the state of Galeana, Nuevo León, and is one of the most scenic ascents in the region. It is a beautiful hill, which has extensive views from its summit.

The car is left in the town of San José de las Joyas, it is only important to notify the neighbors that you will go up the mountain and leave your car there. You must take into account that to get here, it takes about two hours from Mty.

The road to the west face of the mountain has a route for trucks and bikes, the best thing is that you can also consider going up here and having an experience with a different challenge.

If your intention is to have an intense experience of exercise and camping, I recommend you to do the ascent walking, on the other hand, if you want to go to rest or just to sleep in height, you can go up with your truck.

In this mountain, it is very important that you take into account climate change and prepare for it. Due to the altitude, it is a place that becomes colder.
